Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course
Located just a short golf cart ride away from Pura Vida House in the private residential development of Hacienda Pinilla is the Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course.
This 18-hole, 72-par course was designed to lead players through native Matapalo trees in two circuits of nine holes. The course, which can play up to 7,200 yards, was designed by architect Mike Young, who was careful to ensure the layout flowed gracefully amongst the tropical dry forest while also maintaining the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. Due to this careful consideration, the Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course is one of three in Costa Rica to be designated as a Certified Audubon Sanctuary for its commitment to sustainability. The grounds here are abundant with wildlife like iguanas, howler monkeys, and countless birds.
Golfers on this course enjoy the challenge of the 9th hole called “hilltop”, which has a green guarded by sand and a severe slope. This par-4 hole gives players the chance to lay up short of the fairway bunkers, then play a long iron to the raised green. The most enticing hole is likely the “sea mist”. This par-3 hole has players emerging from the dense forest into a clearing, where they are met with fabulous views of the sea. With ocean breezes and the sound of monkeys howling in the trees, this is what golfing in Costa Rica is all about!
The Hacienda Pinilla Beach and Golf Resort has a small clubhouse for players to enjoy, with a pro shop and an open-air bar and grill to have a refreshing drink before tee time and a bite to eat after a round of golf. Reserva Conchal Golf Course
Located just a 45-miniut drive from Pura Vida House, the Reserva Conchal Golf Course is an 18-hole course located in the upscale community of Reserva Conchal. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, the 18 fairways were laid out in such a way as to preserve every single native Banyan tree. These impressively large trees produce dozens of aerial roots that hang down from the tree tops and attach themselves to the ground.
This course features lagoons and ponds that were created to filter runoff during the rainy season from May through November, which is then put to good use in the dry season from December to April. This commitment to sustainability earned the course the prestigious Audubon Sanctuary certification. The greens here are nestled amongst the trees making you feel isolated at times, and the course is so abundant with life you’ll feel like you’re in a wildlife sanctuary!
The Reserva Conchal Course extends 7,000 yards from the back markers and has two nines that trail off into the surrounding forest before returning to the seaside lagoons. The elevation changes and ocean breezes make for a refreshing and challenging day of golf on this championship Costa Rica golf course.
There are two pro shops found here – one at the Reserva Conchal Beach Club and one at the Westin Resort. Both are available to anyone enjoying a day on the links at Reserva.
Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica Golf Course
Located a two-hour drive north of Pura Vida House is the number one rated golf course in Costa Rica. Designed by pro golfer Arnold Palmer, the Ocean Course at the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo is an 18-hole course with incredible views of the Pacific Ocean.
The layout of this course is carved along the peninsula, which juts out into the sea to feature stunning views of nearby beaches on one side or the vast Pacific Ocean on the other side. The course here features challenging elevations and water hazards at several holes. The signature hole, called “el bajo”, features an elevated view of the Culebra Bay. This is a stunning Costa Rica golf course that will stick in your memories long after your golf vacation has ended!
The championship Ocean Course features complimentary transportation from the main lobby to the course, driving range and sand bunker practice area, putting and chipping greens, and a vast pro shop.
